Never under-estimate the power of humour in marketing. Last week, I started receiving Eskom jokes and cartoons by email. It happens like clockwork, Search-Load_shedding_humourdoesn’t it.

After consulting with one of our spokespersons, I decided to include a “Lighter side of load shedding” on our new blog. I created a Humour category, and posted a couple of humorous pics on Friday.

A colleague of mine features “Friday Fool” – a look at amusing crime-related stories (usually of criminals being the cause of their own downfall) – on Eye on Crime. It has proved quite popular, and I thought the same would apply to Shedding Light.

What I didn’t anticipate is quite how quickly it would help the blog get discovered. Here’s a screen shot of the search terms used to find our new blog over the last couple of days.

Okay, it’s small numbers, and we’re only number 20 on Google for yesterday’s search term, but the blog is a week old. I’m pretty chuffed. It took longer than that before this blog started getting traffic via search.
