Vote to win! DA kicks off election campaign

The DA kicked off its election campaign in Kliptown, Soweto on Saturday morning. Here is how the Times covered the event.

Pretty nice story, although there were about 2000 people there in total, so “a few hundred” was a bit of an underestimate. We even had people in an overflow facility.

Are you registered?

Next year’s general election will be arguably the most exciting since 1994. Will you be a part of it?

This weekend, all the IEC’s Polling Stations will be open for registration. If you’re not registered, or if you’ve moved since you last voted, I hope you’ll all go out and register on Saturday or Sunday. If you’re wondering why it’s important to register, or whether your vote can really make the difference, DA Leader Helen Zille provides the answers in the following video clip:

If you know anyone who’s unregistered, please encourage them to register this weekend. Every vote counts.

Helen Zille sings “Never give up!” – which vodcasting platform do you prefer?

You’ve seen Jacob Zuma singing Awuleth’ uMshini Wami. Now you can watch Helen Zille singing along to the DA’s anti-crime campaign theme song, “Never give up!” Eat your heart out, JZ :)

We’ve uploaded the video to multiple Vodcasting platforms, and I’m interested to know which you prefer.

Video: Save Our Scorpions submissions to Parliament

The upshot of our ‘Save Our Scorpions’ viral campaign: 2000 written submissions and 98000 signatures on the various petitions (online, sms and hardcopy). Here’s a video clip of DA safety and security spokesperson Dianne Kohler Barnard handing them over at the Portfolio Committee on Safety and Security:

DA launches new interactive website

On Monday, the DA launched a new online initiative – The Silent Majority. It makes use of video (many thanks to MyVideo for providing us with a customised player), photographs and sound recordings to tell stories about the real life impact of policy decisions and implementation (or lack thereof). As you can read on the site’s ‘About’ page, it is “designed to bring to the fore stories and issues concerning those South Africans who do not usually have a voice in the mainstream media.”

Tip O’Neill, Speaker of the US Congress between 1977 and 1987, once famously said “All politics is local.” The Silent Majority seeks to illustrate that by telling local stories about the lives and experiences of people on the ground, rather than just looking at national politics, the ANC or the government.

It is this gap, between the national and the local, between the general and the specific, and between the promises and the practical reality, that The Silent Majority will explore.” Continue reading ‘DA launches new interactive website’

IOL enhances DA story with embedded Zoopy video

I was quite impressed to see a Zoopy video embedded in an IOL story on the DA’s notice of motion to dissolve Parliament. Zoopy interviewed DA parliamentary leader Sandra Botha ahead of her reply to the President’s State of the Nation Address, and posted the video only an hour or two before the IOL story on her speech was published.

The interesting thing is that, in this context, Zoopy is both competitor and service provider to IOL. The video serves as a news report in its own right. But I think it also adds value to the IOL story. It’s win, win. For us too :) from www.zoopy.com posted with vodpod
